A patron at the Star Casino, part of The Star Entertainment Group (SGR), has tested positive for COVID-19.

Today, NSW Health informed SGR of the positive test. Now, the company is working with the public health organisation to conduct contact tracing across its patron and staff bases.

The visitor attended the Sydney casino on Saturday, July 4, between 7:30 pm and 10:30 pm AEST.

The Star only began a soft relaunch in early June, which involved reopening private gaming rooms and up to 12 food and beverage venues.

Under the tentative reopening, up to 500 of The Star’s loyalty members could come back to gamble on an invite-only basis.

The news of local infection comes as the eastern states face increased threats of community spread and the country fights to contain COVID-19. Today, NSW recorded 15 new coronavirus cases, while Victoria reported 177.

SGR shares have fallen 0.56 per cent today, trading for $2.69 each right before market close.
