Alta Zinc (AZI) has confirmed that high-grade mineralisation from the Pian Bracca Zone has extended into the Ponente area.

Ponente lies 850 metres along strike and to the west of Pian Bracca, where Alta Zinc recently intersected its highest and thickest intercept to date.

Both Pian Bracca and Ponente lie within the Gorno Zinc Project, which is a lead-zinc-silver deposit located in Northern Italy.

This project forms part of a series of deposits that occur across the Alps and neighbouring European countries.

A total of three samples were taken from the western side of Ponente, from an area which has been developed and explored but never mined.

An extra seven samples were then taken from mineralisation in the historically mined pillars from the centre of Ponente.

Significant results include; 2.4 metres at 51.5 per cent zinc, 7.3 per cent lead, and 80g/t silver; and 2.2 metres at 28.8 per cent zinc, 3.2 per cent lead, and 39g/t silver.

These results confirm that the mineralisation keeps its high-grade nature as it extends away from Pian Bracca and into Ponente.

“These channel samples represent a first significant step-out from Pian Bracca and help confirm our geological interpretation that the extensive and stratabound mineralisation in the Gorno mine appears to have good lateral continuity, and excitingly continues to contain some very high grades,” Managing Director Geraint Harris commented.

“As such, these results confirm our view that the Ponente area represents another exciting exploration target, in addition to Pian Bracca, with the potential to add to the mineral resource inventory at the Gorno mine,” he added.

As the stratabound (a mineral deposit confined to a single stratigraphic unit) mineralisation was only partially mined, this area is now Alta Zinc’s primary focus.

However, due to COVID-19, drilling and physical works have been temporarily suspended. Drilling equipment will remain on-site and operations will restart once it is safe and practicable to do so.

During this time, staff will continue analysing recent results to enable Alta Zinc to plan the next phases of drilling and identify new exploration targets in the hopes of expanding the Gorno Mineral Resource base.

Alta Zinc is up a steady 20 per cent in mid-morning trade and shares are selling for 0.6 cents each at 10:27 am AEST.
