American West Metals (AW1) has confirmed a new mineralised zone from a diamond drill hole at its West Desert project in Utah.

The discovery was made 250 metres south west of the West Desert deposit and potentially represents a “significant” extension of known mineralisation.

The hole aimed to test a strong magnetic anomaly, which had the same geophysical signature as the West Desert deposit and had never been drilled.

It intersected multiple zones of strong and massive magnetite skarn mineralisation enriched in zinc, copper, and silver.

The geology and geochemistry of the hole indicate it is on the edge of a strong mineral system.

Assay results from the drilling will received over the coming weeks, with further exploration drilling to follow-up on the new discovery zone.

“This has huge implications for the exploration upside and potential to extend the known West Desert Deposit, with a number of large magnetic and gravity features in the pipeline for drill testing,” Managing Director David O’Neill said.

Shares were trading 2.86 per cent higher today at 18 cents each at 10:10 am AEST.
