Junior explorer Anson Resources (ASN) has collected brine for sampling from drilling at its Paradox lithium project in Utah just weeks after kicking off its latest exploration program.

The company said it has already identified brine inflow while drilling the top of the Mississippian layers in the Long Canyon Unit 2 well in the project area. Anson began a resource expansion program targeting the well towards the end of March.

Today, the company said it would send off any brine samples collected from the area for petrological analysis.

As Anson continues to drill the Mississippian units, it will look for any significant brine inflow or changes in “drilling mud” character, such as its weight, to be collected for sampling.

The company noted, however, that the samples would be a combination of supersaturated brine and drilling mud. Subsequently, the lithium value of the samples would be diluted.

Further to this, Anson said it was collecting samples of the Mississippian units, which consisted of porous dolomites and limestones and were noted for “vuggy” and intercrystalline porosity.

The company plans to collect the samples over 10-foot intervals and record their depths, with cuttings to be sent off for petrological examination.

The Paradox project covers 95 square kilometres and hosts a current resource estimate of about 186,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent.

Shares in Anson Resources were up 8 per cent to $0.14 as of 10:09 am AEST.
