Colorado-based Hazen Research has officially validated the design basis and flowsheet for Arizona Lithium’s (AZL) Big Sandy project in Arizona.

The bench-scale testing program started in November 2020 at Hazen’s research facility and has confirmed the production of at least 99.8 per cent battery-grade lithium.

Hazen’s ore beneficiation, concentrate leaching, and hydrometallurgy reports from the test work will now provide the basis for a planned scoping study at the Big Sandy project.

The scoping study is expected to be completed in July 2022.

Arizona Lithium Managing Director Paul Lloyd said the Hazen bench-scale test program represented an “instrumental” step towards lithium production at Big Sandy.

“Importantly, the testwork has confirmed production of at least 99.8 per cent battery-grade lithium as we seek to supply the rapidly growing EV market in North America, which continues to be driven by the shift towards decarbonised transport,” Mr Lloyd said.

“Over the coming periods, we will continue to refine the design of the Big Sandy project at our new Lithium Research Center located in Phoenix, Arizona.

“This Center will play an important role as we continue to fast track the development of the Big Sandy lithium project.”

The company’s lithium research centre is currently in the engineering phase, with construction anticipated to begin in Q3 2022.

Shares in Arizona Lithium last traded at 11 cents as of June 13.
