Black Rock Mining has announced final metallurgical performance results from its 18-tonne Chinese pilot plant. These results replicated and improved the 90-tonne pilot plant test works performed in Canada.

During the operation, a number of scenarios were tested. The first one included a trade-off analysis to determine the maximum concentrate price achievable.

While the second to enable its partners, Yantai, to value engineer the process route to reduce capex and increase efficiency.

Previous results from Black Rock’s Mahenge Graphite project had an estimated 212m tonnes at 7.8 per cent TGC and has produced 250k tonnes of graphite per annum for 25 years.

According to CEO John de Vries, these results bring confidence into upcoming projects.

“We anticipate that with the absence of weathering effects, the primary material will produce even better outcomes. The above results were delivered over a 5-day operating period inclusive of ramp up and training of operators on ore behavior. This gives us a lot of confidence around a smooth ramp-up of our final proceeding module,” he said.
