Bowen Coking Coal (BCB) has begun coal mining at its Bluff mine in Queensland, as it transitions from explorer to producer.

The company is currently completing an early works program to prepare the pit for mining before HSE Mining begins its three year mining contract.

It expects first coal sales during this quarter and is targeting steady-state ROM coal production at 80,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes from July.

Managing Director and CEO Gerhard Redelinghuys said this is the first step of many ramp up activities planned across Bowen’s projects.

“The commencement of coal mining at Bluff is a monumental move for the company
as we take the major step from explorer to becoming Australia’s next multi-mine coal producer,” he said.

“It is also the culmination of many months of hard work from all involved and I want to thank all our stakeholders for their support, especially the Bowen board, management and staff who made this possible”.

Shares were trading 9.65 per cent higher today at 31.3 cents each at 2:50 pm AEST.
