Brainchip (BRN) has confirmed that last month it began shipping the evaluation boards for the Akida Neuromorphic System-on-Chip (NSoC).

The evaluation board complements Brainchip’s Akida Development Environment (ADE), which allows potential customers to design a neural network and convert it to an event-based convolutional neural network (CNN) which would significantly reduce power consumption.

The Akida NSoC technology is an artificial intelligence (AI) processor which has undergone extensive testing and validation before the design and production process has begun.

According to the AI tech company, Akida brings something new to AI that existing technologies don’t. The technology is high-performance, ultra-low power and enables a range of edge capabilities.

The Akida NSoC can be used in a variety of smart applications, such as home automation and controls, industrial Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, security cameras, sensors, medical instruments, autonomous vehicles, and more.

“Akida introduces new and powerful features to the high-growth AI Edge market. We are excited about our technology and the potential to impact many industries including healthcare and energy conservation which are clearly a global concern,” CEO Louis DiNardo said.

The device also offers new features that enable ‘true’ AI Edge Learning rather than simple AI Edge Training, which requires a connection through the cloud or a data centre. Implementing AI Edge Leaning is a unique feature to the Akida NSoC and allows customers to deploy a new and valuable feature to the AI Edge products.

Brainchip is up 2.82 per cent and shares are trading at 36.5 cents at 10:40 am AEDT.
