Brookside Energy (BRK) is marking a major step forward in Oklahoma's Anadarko Basin in after finally spudding the company's inaugural Jewell Well.

Attempts to spud the well earlier this year were hit with delays following heavy rain and lightning storms across the southern U.S.

Despite the hold-up, the drill rig finally arrived last week and successfully spudded the well on Saturday, May 8.

After completing some preliminary drilling measures, including laying out the drill-string, making up the bottom hole assembly, installing the measurement-while-drilling tool and making up the drill bit, the company is now drilling ahead into the well's vertical section.

The spudding marks the start of a five-year development program expected to cover more than 20 wells across the company's Jewell, Flames and Rangers assets, which are estimated to collectively house around 11.6 million net barrels of oil equivalent.

Drilling at Jewell is targeting the Sycamore formation, one of two primary producing formations underlying the company’s assets in the basin.

The formation feeds the nearby Flash 1-8-5MXH well, which is run by Casillas Operating three miles west of Jewell and has produced around 580,000 barrels of oil equivalent since starting up 19 months ago.

Down the track, Brookside plans to expand drilling at Jewell to target the Woodford formation, which has shown success similar to Sycamore at a Continental Resources-run well, Courbet 1-27-22XHW, one mile to the southwest.

Ahead of market open, BRK is trading at 3.2 cents per share.
