  • Total JORC resource is 550Mt at 45.50 percent aluminium oxide and 2.06 per cent silicon dioxide
  • Assay results from the current drill program have achieved a higher grade, lower silica and deeper mineralised results than previous drills
  • Once drilling is completed at Agnes Canyon is planning to drill the Emilie plateau

Canyon Resources has reported on further positive results at its Martap Bauxite Project in Cameroon.

The Agnes Plateau has a previously reported JORC of 33.46Mt at 46.99 percent aluminium oxide and 2.50 per cent silicon dioxide.

The total resource, which incorporates 14 plateaux from Minim Martap and Ngaoundal permits, is 550Mt at 45.50 percent aluminium oxide and 2.06 per cent silicon dioxide.

Minim Martap is located in the Adamawa region of Cameroon next to Canyon’s existing Birsok Bauxite project consisting of the two deposits, Ngouandal and Minim Martap. The entire project consists of a total area of 1,349 square kilometres.

Previous work completed by Canyon Resources at the Birsok Project has given Canyon a strong understanding of the physical and geochemical characteristics of the bauxite.

The bauxite is generally high alumina, low and creative silica, high gibbsite and low boehmite.

Assay results from the current drill program have achieved generally higher grade, lover silica and deeper mineralised results than the previous Agnes Resources.

Drilling on the Agnes Plateau has been completed but exploration drilling at Minim Martap continues with activity focussed on the Makan permit. Canyon is currently drilling a 27 hole program on the Sophie plateau which is located in the south-east sector of the permit.

“The most recent drilling results from the Agnes plateau are very pleasing and confirm that Canyon’s drilling may be contributing to the improvement of the scale and grade of the Minim Martap resource,” Chief Geologist Dr Alexander Shaw said.

“An assessment will be made, in the future, as to whether additional drilling will be required on the Agnes plateau in order to better define the base of mineralisation.”

Following completion of the drill Canyon is planning to drill the Emilie plateau which is also on the Makan permit.
