Castle Minerals (CDT) has applied for an additional exploration licence to extend its Kendenup graphite project in Western Australia’s Great Southern region.

The new 133-square-kilometre licence encompasses the historical Mt Barrow graphite occurrence 15 kilometres south-east of Kendenup.

Castle said the application was “highly complimentary” to its granted Kendenup and Martagallup exploration licences, where it was due to shortly start a high-resolution ground electromagnetic survey to test for possible extensions to known graphitic zones.

If granted, the company said addition of Mt Barrow would pave the way for a more regional approach to its graphite exploration.

Castle noted the licence area was well serviced by infrastructure, being about five kilometres east of the regional centre of Mt Barker and 45 km north of the Port of Albany.

The company said land access agreements with individual private landowners were being progressed – through a specialist contractor – as was required before DMIRS granted surface exploration rights.

CDT shares were down 5.56 per cent to 5.1 cents at 12:23 pm AEST.
