One of the founding directors of Perth-based First Graphene (FGR), Craig McGuckin, is set to retire from his position as Managing Director.

In his time at the helm, Craig oversaw the construction of what is the world’s largest chemical exfoliation graphene manufacturing facility, located in Henderson, Western Australia.

He was also pivotal in securing patents to protect the company’s growing intellectual property portfolio, establishing a European base for First Graphene at the University of Manchester, and obtaining government approval from the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS).

Most notably, Craig identified the Vortex Fluid Device (VFD) as a method to create green graphene oxide, a process which he then pursued in collaboration with Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia.

Warwick Grigor, Chairman of First Graphene, thanked Craig for his innovation, vision and leadership.

“Craig has had a dual focus to his role, both as the leader of First Graphene, which he’s fulfilled with great innovation and professionalism, and also as a key player globally for helping to establish the commercial viability of the graphene industry,” he said.

“He has assembled an excellent team of professional people and leaves the company in great condition to move forward and expand. On behalf of the Board and shareholders, I thank Craig for his excellent efforts and wish him well in his retirement,” he added.

With Craig’s three-month notice now submitted, First Graphene has launched a worldwide search to identify a new Managing Director, who will be tasked with leading the company through its next phase of growth.

First Graphene shares closed in the grey on Friday, worth 15 cents each.
