DroneShield’s (DRO) DroneGun Tactical product has been selected to be used by the European Union Police.
DroneGun Tactical is a safe countermeasure against a wide range of drones. It allows for controlled management of drone payload such as explosives. A drone payload is essentially the weight a drone or unmanned aerial vehicle can carry.
However, the company says no damage will be done to common drones or the surrounding environment. The DroneGun will also help police track down the operator of a drone of interest.
DroneShield was established in response to the growing use of consumer drones for ‘unethical purposes’ and the resulting need for effective countermeasures to drone intrusions.
The selection process was run by the Belgium Police, but DroneShield’s product will be used across various countries in Europe.
DroneShield’s Benelux region partner ForcePro BV will manage sales, training and local support.
The agreement doesn’t specify a minimum purchase amount, but the company expects this deal will see material sales over an extended period of time. Orders for the product will start this quarter.
CEO Oleg Vornick said this is an exciting win in a number of ways. He said this is the first framework rollout of counter-drone equipment by any Government customer.
“This selection by a highly demanding customer, following on the UK Government CPNI certification last year, reinforces the world-leading position of our products in the industry,” he said.
“Importantly, this win of the competitive tender by DroneShield illustrates that security is at the forefront of governments globally as well as the fact that, after a brief interruption caused by the COVID crisis, global procurement processes have resumed,” he added.
Droneshield ended the day up 61.9 per cent and shares closed at 17 cents each.
