Eastern Metals (EMS) has plans to explore for lithium in the Barrow Creek region in the Northern Territory.

Exploration will take place within the 90-square-kilometre Arunta project that was one of the companies debut projects.

The site contains the Home of Bullion copper deposit as well as copper-nickel sulphide mineralisation, and EMS today said it also holds the potential of hard rock lithium.

The Barrow Creek pegmatite field has previously been home to tin, tungsten, tantalum, and mica, among other materials.

These minerals were previously mined between 1940 and 1980, but the site has since been largely inactive.

Core Lithium (CXO) and Australasian Gold (A8G) have also recently commenced lithium exploration in the pegmatites in Barrow Creek.

EMS is the ‘new kid on the block’ and was only listed on the ASX in the Q1 of FY22.

The company now owns a total of three projects between the Northern Territory and New South Wales.

The other projects belonging to the company are the Cobar tenement’s polymetallic deposit and the underexplored Thomson project.

EMS has plans to start metal and lithium exploration at Barrow Creek once COVID-19 travel restrictions have relaxed and seasonal conditions allow for this.

Eastern Metals closed green by 2.04 per cent at 25 cents a share this afternoon.
