Esports Mogul (ESH) has partnered with Microsoft to support the upcoming Age of Empires II Definitive Edition (AoE II DE) tournament.

Under this partnership, Mogul and Microsoft will launch a new AoE II DE branded hub and a 12-month tournament series, the AoE II Asia Cup, which will start in Q1 2020.

This tournament series will run across eight Asia-Pacific markets and Mogul will receive US$70,000 to launch the branded hub.

In Q1, Mogul and Microsoft will launch a branded hub and tournament series in Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia.

The branded hub will be a central place for Microsoft to engage with Age of Empire fans, where it can offer exclusive content and paid subscriptions.

First launched in 1997, Age of Empires is a real-time strategy game that pioneered the genre.

The series follows and focuses on historical events throughout time, such as the Stone Age, the rise of the Roman Empire, Greek and Egyptian civilisation, and the Bronze Age.

Players can choose between 12 civilisations to develop and must create buildings and new technologies to evolve their colony.

“Age of Empires is an iconic PC title for gamers in Asia, and one we’re very excited to be bringing into competition through the upcoming AoE II Asia Cup with Mogul,” Jeremy Hinton, Director, Gaming Category, Asia at Microsoft said.

“Mogul’s competition platform provides us with the ability to deliver engaging, interactive competition events for fans across Asia region, bringing this classic PC game into the online esports age,” he added.

This tournament series will run over four seasons from Q1 2020 to February 2021 and will be co-promoted by Mogul and Microsoft.

The top four teams from each season will secure a spot in the AoE Asia Cup Major which will be promoted by Microsoft.

“We’ve been delighted to work with Microsoft in recent weeks to discover and engage the region’s most passionate AoE competitors as we work to organise a world-class competition through our branded hub and online tournament delivery solution,” Mogul Chief Marketing Officer, Mark Warburton commented.

“This partnership is exciting as it aligns perfectly with Mogul’s goal to provide Microsoft and other game publishers alike, with a cost-effective, turnkey grassroots esports solution that can seamlessly scale in multiple languages and delight gaming communities and fans across multiple markets,” he added.

The Age of Empires’ localised branded hub will be launched on Mogul later this quarter.

Mogul has jumped 16.7 per cent on the market this morning, with shares trading for 0.7 cents apiece at 11:26 am AEDT.
