A-Frame raises $11.2m in Seed Funding

LA-based celebrity brand-building platform, A-Frame, has raised US$11.2 million (around A$15m) in its latest fundraising efforts.

Launched in 2019 by entrepreneur Ari Bloom, A-Frame runs a portfolio of celebrity-led brands that are designed to meet issues that disproportionately affect certain communities. The latest fundraising round raised money for three products, set to release later in the year.

Kinló is a suncare line developed for melanin-rich skin, by Naomi Osaki. Alongside this product, is Proudly, a babycare line for children of colour released by Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade and in the works is another skincare line developed by John Legend.

The latest fundraising round was led by capital firm Forerunner Ventures and Initialised Capital. The investment was also contributed by Manzanita Capital, Moise Emquies and multi-state cannabis operator, Columbia Care.

A-Frame strives to prioritise diversity in both its and use capital funds to support brands that are bringing diversity to light.

In a fundraising round during 2020, A-Frame previously raised US$2 million (approximately A$2m) in a round of funding led by Initialised Capital.

Designed foremost to solve problems for those who need them most. We take our time to ensure that everything we build resembles our community, our mission and our beliefs.

In an interview with Business of Fashion, founder, Ari Bloom, described the difference between A-Frame’s brands and Instagram-influenced backed labels.

“We always say we’re trying to solve problems, but looking at problems that affect 30 to 50 per cent of the population, because of their skin colour, gender identity, sexual orientation or accessibility.”
