A Look At The Rolls-Royce Phantom Tempus; Made in Adoration of the Universe

Rolls-Royce’s latest limited-edition Phantom, dubbed Tempus, will be 20 cars strong and harkens to ‘time, deep space, and a theoretical physicist who changed the way to see the universe.’

Glenn and Gigi Moss of Riverside, California, have commissioned one of these rare vehicles to commemorate a very important occasion, their 40th wedding anniversary.

The Moss’ desire to commemorate the beginning of their life together was the idea for this set of bespoke creations. The Phantom Tempus’ Bespoke Spirit of Ecstasy is crafted of pure silver, and the base of the figurine is inscribed with the place and date of the couple’s first meeting in 1976. The specific position is also marked by latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates.

The date and place of the couple’s 1981 wedding are discreetly engraved into the base of the black carbon fibre Spirit of Ecstasy that adorns the prow of the Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge.

Mr Moss’ Phantom Tempus features a brilliant Crystal over Arctic White exterior. The stunning hue was chosen to represent the light and endless nature of time in their marriage. A hand-painted black coachline and details complement the dazzling finish.

The lighted treadplate says, “Phantom Tempus Collection – Hand made in Goodwood England for Glenn L. Moss Sr.” when the coach doors are opened. Arctic White hand-crafted leather is complemented by black accents, piping, and contrast stitching on the interior of the Moss Phantom Tempus, continuing the ‘light’ concept. The black Sparkle Piano fascia is suggestive of the deep blackness of space shimmering with the eternal light of the stars.

Mr Moss also ordered the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to construct a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge for Mrs Moss, in addition to a highly personal Phantom Tempus.

A brilliant expanse of colour contrasts sharply with the bright white hues of the Phantom Tempus, which has an exterior finish of Crystal over Bright Red. The four-seater convertible converts into a sleek two-seater roadster swiftly thanks to a Bespoke Aero Cowling.

Spirit of Ecstasy on the bonnet is made of black, high-gloss carbon fibre. Certain chrome elements, such as the front grille surround, baggage compartment lid finisher, exhaust pipes, and air intake finisher, have been given a darker look.

For an aggressive look, the car’s rims are made up of 22 layers of carbon fibre that have been bent and moulded.

The handcrafted interior is completed in full natural grain leather with black piping and accents. The Rolls-Royce emblem, as well as the ‘Unlimited’ infinity motif stitched on the Dawn’s fabric, are embroidered on each headrest.

“I could think of no better way to mark a special moment in time in Gigi and my life together than with this duo of Rolls-Royce commissions,” Mr Moss said.

“The beauty of commissioning a Rolls-Royce is in making it personal and intimate. Phantom Tempus provided us with a wonderful canvas to personalize the painting of our lives together. And the addition of the Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge commission is a statement to celebrate the fact that we will carry our passion for life long into the future. Some things are timeless, and this is what we celebrate.”
