A Look at the Second Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

Featuring a unique exterior finish and interior details, the highly-anticipated and second-ever Rolls-Royce Boat Tail was unveiled by the shores of Lake Como, a breathtaking setting befitting of a piece of motoring art.

Showcased to the world for the first time on May 21, the second chapter of the renowned Boat Tail revealed what Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös described as “far more than just a beautiful motor car”. As one of just three that have been, and ever will be, made, the Boat Tail is a legacy and a feat of craftsmanship. Not to mention one of the most expensive cars in the world, with estimates of the Boat Tail price sitting at around the A$40 million mark.

Created by a client in honour of his “father and family heritage”, the second chapter of the magnificent Boat Tail first captivates with its mother-of-pearl-inspired paintwork.

The commissioning patron’s deep-rooted connection to Boat Tail is an inspiration – the result far exceeds a means of conveyance to become, quite literally, a moving work of art.

Entirely hand-built, the body panels glisten in what Rolls-Royce described as “one of the most complex Bespoke finishes ever created” by the brand. The client, whose father has origins in the pearling industry and is reportedly based in the Middle East, brought in a selection of pearl shells from his private collection to serve as inspiration for the exterior colour.

A blend of oyster and soft rose, with white and bronze mica adding a pearlescent effect, the bespoke paintwork changes under different light conditions. The cognac of the Boat Tail’s bonnet contrasts against the pink-toned pearlescent paintwork.

Featuring the Boat Tail’s signature “butterfly-design”, the hosting suite is inlaid with rose gold-plated pinstripes and houses the most luxurious of picnic sets.

Inside, the dashboard is adorned with a timepiece made from mother-of-pearl, along with the control switches and instrument dials, “creating a strong visual and material connection between the car, the owner, and his family heritage”.

A truly one-of-a-kind car, the Boat Tail blends contemporary design with traditional racing yacht features to create something truly extraordinary. And while the owner of this Boat Tail remains somewhat anonymous, it is believed that Jay-Z and Beyoncé are the owners of the other iteration of the coachbuilt Boat Tail.
