Adidas x Gucci Collection: Sports-Inspired Streetwear Honours Heritage

Silhouettes inspired by collegiate style unfold through a nostalgic colour palette and reimagined sports clubs’ uniforms.

Luxury fashion house meets iconic sportswear brand. How could a partnership between two industry powerhouses be anything other than one of the year’s most anticipated collaborations?

It couldn’t. And the new adidas x Gucci collection lives up to the hype.

First revealed at Gucci’s Autumn/Winter ’22 show back in January, the collection designed by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele spans streetwear, athleisure and accessories.

The collection expands on the sartorial streetwear creations with a spectrum of sport-inspired pieces in which the heritage of both brands is encoded in a trio of lines.

Both brands take turns at reimagining each others most recognisable codes with the collection as a whole exuding a gender-fluid, sporty, retro glamour.

You’ll find an array of garments mingling with staple accessories – everything from hoodies, knits and tracksuits to trousers, skirts and bags. Some adidas classics get the Gucci spin including its iconic trefoil tracksuit, traditional bowling bag and a Michele favourite, the Gazelle shoe. Gucci’s 80s-inspired knits receive vibrant colour upgrades adorned with classic adidas details.

Both labels are heavily intertwined across the collection. Gucci’s emblematic motifs mix with adidas’ iconic three-stripe motif and Adidas Originals’ trefoil emblem spread across the pieces.

True to adidas’ sneaker heritage, the collection focuses on footwear. Aside from the Gazelle silhouette, a selection of leather and suede loafers, clogs, and slides arrive in dual branding with Gucci’s red and green motif accented by the adidas Three Stripes.

The prices swing more towards Gucci’s market starting at A$325 for a pair of ankle socks and peaking at A$5,615 for a large duffle bag with a pair of the 11 Gazelle iterations costing A$1,070. Hats are going for A$820 for a baseball cap and A$895 for a bucket hat. T-shirts start at A$960, sweatshirts A$1,680 and jackets A$2,605.

The collection is yet another big name collaboration that’s sure to stir up high fashion fans but hardly came as a surprise. We only have to look back at Gucci’s collaborations with Balenciaga, The North Face and more recently Idris Alba to remember the fashion house’s affinity for high-end partnerships.
