Art Gallery of Western Australia to Open New Rooftop Space This Weekend

Perth’s Art Gallery of Western Australia is set to open its new rooftop venue tomorrow, November 6, with a local line-up of artists, DJs and views of the city skyline.

The completed A$10 million state government project will offer a 500-capacity multipurpose arts space and bar atop the AGWA building in Northbridge. AGWA’s rooftop is now the largest rooftop space in Perth.

Featuring works from the State Art Collection, the new multipurpose arts space will function as both an indoor and outdoor gallery with an open-air sculpture park. Wrapped around the exterior walls of the rooftop is Noongar artist Christopher Pease’s Targets, a 34-metre long artwork that celebrates the Derbarl Yerrigan or Swan River.

Targets are the largest artwork the gallery has ever commissioned.

Called The View From Here Opening Weekend, locals can see the work of WA’s established and emerging artists at AGWA this weekend along with the new rooftop space, which will be filled with live music from Saturday 4pm and a free art class from Sunday 3pm. The View From Here is the largest ever exhibition and celebration of WA art displayed at the gallery.

The AGWA Rooftop can also be booked for corporate events.
