Available For Rent: The Real House of Gucci Villa Balbiano

Recognised as Lake Como’s glittering crown jewel, Villa Balbiano recently laid the scene for Aldo Gucci’s home in House of Gucci, and it’s little surprise as to why. Perched upon the western shore of Lake Como, the prestigious villa boasts pristine gardens and interiors fit for royalty, or at least the Gucci family. Villa Balbiano could be yours for a short while too, with the one-of-a-kind property available to rent.

Advertised on luxury listing sites, Home in Italy, Haute Retreats and even Airbnb, the 16th-century palazzo is easily one of the most unique and opulent stays in Italy. Often booked for weddings, the breathtaking and storied villa will cost you a pretty penny to book, if you can book it that is. According to Home in Italy, a week at the historic and very in-demand Villa Balbiano will set you back at least approximately A$230,800.

Dating back to the 16th century, the breath-taking palazzo was originally home to Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio and a number of notable Italian figures in the years following. While Villa Balbiano was only a stand-in for Aldo Gucci’s former residence and not his actual home, we’re certain that the prestigious Lake Como villa would have been more than sufficient for the former Gucci chairman. Boasting 17th-century frescoes adorned with paintings by the Recchi brothers and Agostino Silva, numerous works of art and the most extravagant finishes, the six-bedroom and bathroom villa is truly a palatial work of art.

Spanning more than two hectares, Villa Balbiano is surrounded by expertly manicured gardens, a large swimming pool, a private pier and a boathouse. Inside, the property is filled with objets d’art sourced from Sotheby’s and Christie’s; chandeliers, ornate mirrors and furnishings embellished with gold and velvet complement each room.

Over the centuries, the historic palazzo has been known to have played host to many festivals, banquets and dances. And just by taking a glimpse into the living spaces and sweeping grounds, it’s not hard to imagine Villa Balbiano filled with guests wearing ball gowns and suits.

Defined by neoclassical glamour and impeccable attention to detail, each suite has been designed by a renowned interior decorator, Jacques Garcia. Decked out in intricate furnishings and dramatic headboards, the level of opulence and prestige continues through to the marble bathrooms, where of course there are more chandeliers.

Along with incredible views of Lake Como, a stay at Villa Balbiano also includes a concierge, porter, and cooking and waiter service.
