Balenciaga Showcases 50th Haute Couture Collection in Shanghai

Balenciaga has unveiled its 50th Haute Couture Collection in China by transforming Shanghai’s Tank Museum into a palace of beige fabric and light.

Showcasing 30 looks, including 29 from Demna Gvasalia’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection presented at Paris Fashion Week, the showcase is the Kering-owned brand’s first event in China and first haute couture showcase outside of Paris.

It is an honor to share the heritage of the Maison and the creative vision of Demna with our highly sophisticated audience who have the utmost understanding of luxury and craftsmanship. Our team in China has worked tirelessly to make this event possible.

C├ędric Charbit, CEO of Balenciaga told L’Officiel

Drawing inspiration from Balenciaga’s recently restored couture salon in Paris, the Tank Museum on the site of the former Longhua airport was completely transformed into a couture salon, grand hall, banquet room and showroom. Furnished with replicas of the original pieces of Cristobal Balenciaga’s salon and atelier, and swathed in fabric, the venue was converted into the perfect ethereal backdrop for the brand’s haute couture revival.

Paired with the ‘flying-saucer hats’ by Philip Treacy, the collection featured structured and bold ballgowns, denim and classic silhouettes and has been praised as one of the best haute couture showcases of recent years.
