Barcelona Voted Most Popular Destination for Superyacht Fleet

The cosmopolitan city of Barcelona is experiencing a recent surge in superyachts and private jets arriving on its shores. Being only a day’s sailing distance away from other popular Mediterranean destinations, coupled with a host of Michelin-starred restaurants and luxurious marinas, it’s no surprise that the wealthy are choosing to holiday in Barcelona.

Knight Frank’s Wealth Report revealed that over 5,000 private jets land in Barcelona every year, while around 574 different yachts entered the city between 2015 and 2020. The size of these yachts has seen a significant increase each year, with 44 of the yachts being over 60 metres in length in 2015 and 20 yachts being over 90 metres in length since 2019.

Marina Port Vell

One of Barcelona’s major drawing cards is the luxurious superyacht marina located in the heart of the city.

Originally built for the 1992 Olympic Games, Marina Port Vell is a 151-berth facility that can accommodate yachts from five metres and up to 190 metres in length. The marina’s opulent size and five-star facilities sees it frequented by royals, celebrities, chief executives and world-famous entrepreneurs. The marina’s facilities include an onsite wellness room, gym, spa, crew lounge, restaurant, bar and meeting rooms.

Repairs and overhauls

Many superyachts choose to remain in Barcelona for repairs and refits during the winter. This is largely due to the city being home to MB92, the world’s leading superyacht refit and maintenance service provider. The company conveniently neighbours Marina Port Vell, and will typically work on more than 100 vessels that are over 40m long every year.
