Billionaire Insight: Inside the Luxury Life of James Packer

With a net worth of A$5.72 billion and a highly publicised roller coaster of a business career, James Packer is one of Australia’s most well-known billionaires.

After inheriting the family media empire of Consolidated Press Holdings following his father Kerry Packer’s death in 2005, James Packer went on to acquire stakes in the websites SEEK and Carsales.com before moving away from media and into the gaming and tourism industry.

Packer then went on to build Crown Resorts into a multi-billion dollar company that reportedly attracts more than 31 million visitors to its Australian resort and casino complexes in Perth and Melbourne each year. In March 2018, Packer resigned as executive chairman of Crown Resorts but remains as the company’s largest shareholder.

Crown has since been tangled in inquiries and investigations based on allegations of junket partnerships and money laundering.

The son of late media mogul, Kerry Packer AC, James Packer is the 15th wealthiest person in Australia, according to the Australian Financial Review’s 2021 Rich List.
