Blast from the Past: DeLorean Just Teased A New Electric Vehicle

The car manufacturer of the iconic ‘Back to the Future’ DMC-12 car, DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) has revealed a teaser for a reimagined electric sports car believed to be coming this year.

The car was used as a time machine in the Robert Zemeckis film. With its futuristic design and stainless-steel body, it was perfect for a time-travelling flick like Back to the Future.

Texas-based DeLorean released a short teaser at the 2022 Super Bowl, that looks to be reviving the classic sports car but with a thoroughly modern electric vehicle upgrade.

Italian design firm, Italdesign, the company behind the original DeLorean in 1981, first revealed a photo in early 2021 – spreading rumours of a collaboration and a new model.

DMC celebrated the 40th anniversary of the original DMC-12 model taking to Twitter to say:

DeLorean DMC-12 turns 40 this year… What a better way to celebrate an icon of automotive history than a sneak peek of the (near) future? Stay tuned for more…

It sent DeLorean fans into a frenzy who have been interested in a new DMC-12 ever since it was discontinued in 1982.

The DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) is currently waiting for the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act to be passed. If the legislative rights are passed, the company headquartered in Houston, Texas can begin building the DMC-12 again. In small numbers, naturally.
