Bvlgari’s Octo Perpetual Timepiece Takes Out the GPHG Aiguille d’Or for 2021

Claiming the title of the Gran Prix D’horlogerie de Geneve Aiguille d’Or is the equivalent of getting an Oscar for Best Picture in the watch world. And this year, the prestigious award went to Bulgari for its Octo Finissimo timepiece.

Hosted in Geneva, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) took place on November 4, marking the 20th anniversary of the high standing event.

In November of each year, the foundation hosts the annual GPHG Award Ceremony, where the winners of each category are announced. For the 2021 edition, all competing watches had to be commercialised after May 2020 and at the latest by the end of October 2021. Any watch company in the world can submit up to seven total watches, limited to one in each category.

The Aiguille d’Or winning Octo Finissimo, which is defined by its distinct octagonal design, is priced at A$22,000.

Other notable award winners include Piguet’s Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ Extra thin which earned the Iconic Watch Prize, as well as Bernhard Lederer’s Central Impulse Chronometer which took home the Innovation Prize.

The GPHG dates back to 2001 and is one of if not the most highly anticipated watch awards night of the year. Bvlgari’s win represents the first time an Italian-born brand has won the coveted Aiguille d’Or.
