From Margaret Qualley to Cara Delevingne: Chanel’s Couture Brides Throughout History

It’s a saintly Chanel ritual to close a haute couture show with a hand-crafted wedding gown. Dating back to the 80s, this tradition was set in place by the late Karl Lagerfield who would send Chanel’s latest supermodel muse down the runway wearing an extravagant bridal couture piece.

Since then we’ve seen the likes of Claudia Schiffer, Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne and most recently, Margaret Qualley, wrap up Chanel’s haute couture shows with remarkable bridal looks. From capes, veils, mini-dresses and pantsuits to classic Cinderella-esque ball gowns, here are some of the most celebrated haute couture pieces showcasing Chanel’s interpretation of the classic wedding dress.

Margaret Qualley

Walking out onto the steps of the Pallais Galliera was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress, Margaret Qualley. As part of Virginie Viard’s 37 piece Chanel’s Haute Couture Fall 2021/2022 Collection. Qualley wrapped up the show in a simple yet ever-so-elegant sheer pink gown, featuring a boat neckline and ample A-line skirt. Donning a sequin-studded veil, Qualley’s princess-style bridal look is unavoidably going to incite brides for years to come.

Claudia Schiffer

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer was undeniably the fashion ‘it’ girl of the 90s and Karl Lagerfield’s primary muse during that decade. While Schiffer opened many Chanel shows wearing some of the fashion house’s most iconic looks, it was her bridal looks that wrapped up and stole the show.

Devon Aoki

Devon Aoki stole the show when she stepped out wearing one of Chanel’s edgier bridal looks. Devon Aoki wrapped up Chanel’s Fall 2000 show in a pink tulle mini dress with pink boots to match. For Chanel’s spring 2001 show, she strutted the runway in tiers of silk and lace peplums.

Cara Delevingne

Donning ostrich feathers and a sheer beaded dress, Cara Delevingne was officiated as Chanel’s muse in its Spring/Summer 2014 Haute Couture Show. Wearing a pair of Chanel trainers, Delevingne was accompanied by a sparkly page boy who was none other than Lagerfield’s five-year-old godson.

Kendall Jenner

Taking place of Cara Delevingne for Chanel’s Fall 2015 show was Kendall Jenner. Wearing a silk white pantsuit and an elaborate veil-like cape that trailed behind her, Kendall was the last look of the Bond-inspired couture show. A look we are still obsessed with today.

Lily-Rose Depp

At just 17 years old, model and actress Lily-Rose Depp wore Chanel’s final look for its Spring/Summer 2017 show. Wearing a dress covered in a pink ruffle and cinched in at the waist with a chunky pink belt, Lily-Rose Depp was a vision of feminine beauty.
