Gabrielle Chanel Exhibition Arrives to Australia

Centred around the evolution and contribution of Gabrielle Chanel’s career, ‘Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto’ will make its international debut in Melbourne on December 4.

Presented by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), the exhibition from the luxury French fashion house will explore Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel as a designer and the impact of her work on the role of women in society.

From tweed suits to the little black dresses, the exhibition will display more than 240 pieces, including clothing, jewellery, perfume and accessories.

Every facet of her career and her design language, the iconography, the brand, the Chanel codes, the Chanel style, is here.

Danielle Whitfield, NGV curator told The Sydney Morning Herald

‘Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto’ made its debut in Paris’ Palais Galliera in October last year, where Chanel ambassador and actor Margaret Qualley was one of the first to preview the exhibition.

In a video from Chanel, Qualley commented she was excited that the exhibition was travelling to Melbourne to give the pieces a ‘whole new set of admirers.’

According to the NGV, the exhibition ‘highlights how Chanel rewrote fashion conventions to transform women’s wardrobes’ and charts the evolution of Chanel’s style. It is the first exhibition in Australia to focus exclusively on Gabrielle Chanel’s contribution to to twentieth-century fashion culture.

The exhibition will run 10am to 5pm daily and wrap up on April 25 2022. Tickets are priced at A$30 per adult.
