Health and Lifestyle: Sydney’s Best Gyms

Whether it’s finding the will to get out of bed early in the morning or after a long day of work, it’s no secret that sometimes finding the energy and motivation to go to the gym can be hard. But, maybe that isn’t all there is to it.

In the last few years, there’s been a major rise in the number of unique and boutique gyms that offer something different to the standard gym chains. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with those but if you’re someone who wants something more to fuel your motivation and discipline then look no further.

We’ve rounded up Sydney’s top six gyms which offer a space that makes finding the motivation to work out that little bit easier.

Paramount Recreation Club

Sitting above Surry Hills is Paramount Recreation Club — one of Sydney’s most premium gyms and a rooftop haven that offers a versatile fitness experience.

Opening in 2018, this Paramount Recreation Club was inspired by the fitness studios in Los Angeles, and you can tell. With its sleek design fitness centre and stunning natural light, you can take advantage of various workouts such as yoga, pilates, boxing, and the signature ‘Paramount Workout’. On top of these sessions, the club offers the kiosk rooftop, sparkling amenities and treatments to relax your body and mind.

Barry’s Bootcamp

Barry’s Bootcamp offers a high-intensity workout that combines cardio with strength training in a red-tinted, night club-esque room. With three locations around the CBD, Barry’s Bootcamp has become a favourite among Sydney-siders since opening in 2018. Celebrity trainer, Barry Jay, opened the fitness studio in West Hollywood back in 1998 which has since become an internationally-renowned chain of gyms, attracting the likes of Mandy Moore, David Beckham and Hailey Baldwin-Bieber.

Beach Fit Bondi

Nestled next to the iconic Bondi Beach, is Beach Fit Bondi which offers something for everyone in a beautifully landscaped space. The gym features state-of-the-art equipment, an indoor sled track and functional training space. It also goes that one step further by offering F45 which has increasingly become a favourite for those of us with less time on our hands.

So, why not check out Beach Fit Bondi where you’ll be greeted by friendly staff who are committed to making everyone’s time a first class experience.

King Beats Fitness

King Beats opened a little over a year ago and has since been rated one of the “coolest new Sydney gyms” by The Iconic. It offers weight and cardio training, as well as specialty classes including – Greatest HIITS, Beat Boxing (boxing and cardio), Pump ‘n’ Grind (weights and compound movement) and Encore.

It gives members a nightclub atmosphere through a combination of live DJs and graffiti murals in its high-ceiling, urban industrial building. The tone of the gym is set as soon as you walk in where you’ll see a giant wall of golden champagne bottles inspired by Jay Z and Beyonce’s $700-plus bottles of Armand de Brignac. King Beats Fitness is a gym like no other.

The Well

As the name suggests, The Well is more than just a gym, it’s a wellness space that allows people to be challenged and motivated no matter their training style.

This small, but stunning, space overlooks Bondi Beach and offers many classes that range between 30 and 60 minutes. According to Head Trainer, Caroline Fitzgerald, the classes are designed to leave you feeling strong, sweaty and confident — and I don’t doubt that. With a line-up of reformer pilates, yoga, barre, group training, boxing, meditation and personal training sessions, you’re bound to feel the burn. The Well also provides various therapies such as chiro, massage, nutrition, naturopathy, physio and more.

98 Gym

Nestled across two locations in Darlinghurst and Bondi is 98 Gym. This gym is located in a New York-style warehouse which has become a go-to for those serious about building strength and power. Once owned by Hollywood A-lister, Russell Crowe, 98 Gym offers interval weight training, and conditioning to help build strength, muscle mass and overall cardiovascular health.

98 Gym is a well-renowned, high performance facility with trainers from a range of backgrounds including former elite athletes, members of the defence force, and more. It values persistence and hard work over aesthetics, so if you’d like an old-fashioned workout then head to 98 Gym.
