Kim Jones Reworks Iconic House Signatures for Fendi’s Winter Collection

Blending contemporary utilitarian function with contemporary material illusion, Fendi’s latest ready-to-wear collection opened with supermodel Bella Hadid in a sheer slip dress and cropped furry jacket. Debuted to a full audience at Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday, the autumn/winter collection reflected designer Kim Jones’ dive into the Fendi archives.

Swathes of pastel-toned chiffon, touches of tweed, leather jackets and bustiers, knit gloves and plenty of baguette bags graced the runway, prompting many to point out tasteful nods to Y2K fashion, or more specifically, Fendi’s spring 2000 collection by Lagerfield.

According to the show notes, the collection was also inspired by Fendi’s spring/summer collection of 1986, particularly in terms of tailoring.

The best way to explore the FENDI archives is through the Fendi wardrobes.

Tied together by monogrammed accessories, the collection consistently highlighted Jones’ keen eye for tailoring and his ability to create pieces that flatter and celebrate the female form. From the collection’s sultry ribbon-edged chiffon dresses to some of the more structured tweed looks, every piece offered a balance of softness and structure; utilitarianism and femininity.

In honour of the iconic Baguette bag’s 25th anniversary, the show featured a number of previous editions of the Fendi handbag. The monogram-heavy Fendi First also made a few appearances down the runway.
