Before you go out and buy your newest water vessel, these boat schools and sailing clubs are a good place to start.

Perth Boat School

Located in Coogee, Perth Boat School offers an extensive range of skippers ticket and boating courses. If you have recently got your skippers ticket and you haven’t owned a boat before, then you can start with the New Boat Owner Course. The school also offers Big Boat Handling and Advanced Boat Handling for anyone that’s upgrading or wanting to gain some more experience. If you’re interested in learning a particular skill, such as taking your boat over to Rottnest Island, the school is happy to accommodate your needs.

Nedlands Yacht Club

Located on the stunning Matilda Bay foreshore, Nedlands Yacht Club offers junior and adult sailing courses. Conducted on Hobie Catamarans and Pacer Dinghies, the adult sailing courses run over the club’s sailing season from October to April, with the opportunity to join the club’s regular weekend and weekday races to continue gaining experience once you have completed the course.

South of Perth Yacht Club

South of Perth Yacht Club offers a huge range of sailing and powerboat handling courses. The sailing courses offer training for complete beginners to more advanced sailors, with specialised courses suited to female, teenage and junior sailors. The club also offers a number of powerboat courses, including a recreational skippers ticket, national power boat handling, and safety boat handler. If you’re still eager to get some more experience then there are also opportunities to volunteer and join a squad.

Royal Perth Yacht Club

Royal Perth Yacht Club provides powerboat training sessions and learn to sail courses for people in Perth. The club offers recreational skippers ticket training, as well as time trialling and seafarer training for anyone interested in power boat racing. If sailing is more your thing then you can sign up for one of the short adult learn to sail courses or join the regular weekend training sessions for dingy and keelboat racing.

Boating West

With three West Australian locations, Boating West provides a number of boat handling training sessions. Offering a half-day skippers ticket training course, you will learn not just the necessary theory but also gain practical experience on the water.
