Maserati GrandTurismo Folgore EV Claims 1200hp

MaseratiĀ is set to launch a range of electric models that will wear the Folgore name. To emphasize these EVs’ focus on performance, Maserati says that the upcoming GranTurismo Folgore will offer over 1200 horsepower from three electric motors and claims it will accelerate to 62 mph in less than 3.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph.

The bodywork of the GranTurismo Folgore is bold and futuristic with a reworked grille, aggressive lines and styling.

According to reports, the Folgore range of EVs will not zoom past silently, like any other electric vehicle, but will produce some kind of sound to accompany the vehicle accelerating, whether this is from the electric motor itself is still unclear, but according to Maserati, “anyone on board a Maserati must hear the unmistakable sound of its engine.”

In another unexpected announcement, Maserati has also outlined its intention to cease production of combustion engine cars by 2030, paving the way for a 100 per cent electric future for the Italian manufacturer.

The Folgore range will include an electric version of the Grecale SUV and the MC20 Supercar with a next-generation Quattroporte sedan and Levante SUV expected in 2025.

Maserati made no announcement about continuing production or switching to an all-electric Ghibli Sedan and it is expected the car will be discontinued once this generation of cars has run its course.

There will still be a petrol version of the Granturismo produced and the new Grecale SUV and Grecale Folgore are expected to be unveiled next week.
