Everything You Need to Know About Melbourne Fashion Week 2021

Melbourne venues like the Sea Life Aquarium and National Gallery of Victoria will come alive with runways shows and fashion exhibitions this week as Melbourne Fashion Week (MFW) takes over the city.

Hosted from November 15 to 21, this year’s MFW will, fortunately, look different to last year’s digital edition, offering fashion lovers city-wide runway shows, talks, exhibitions, workshops and more.

Presented by the City of Melbourne, MFW 2021 is aimed at celebrating and uplifting Melbourne’s fashion scene and creative community. It is the event’s 27th anniversary and has evolved from Melbourne Spring Fashion Week to the comprehensive city-wide fashion event it’s beginning to be recognised as today.

Boasting more than 250 designers, this year’s MFW offers no shortage of local fashion. Sporting a lineup of both emerging and established Australian designers, MFW 2021 will illustrate just how much Australian fashion has to offer. Throughout the week, attendees will be able to see shows from sass & bide, Aje, BLANCA by Reliquia Collective, Amber Days and plenty more.

Here are some of MFW’s key venues and what attendees can expect from the events.

Royal Botanic Gardens

Surrounded by the lush Royal Botanic Gardens, the designs of Aje, Akira, Ngali, Ginger & Smart and more were showcased as part of the opening day of the festival.

South Wharf Promenade

Featuring Bec + Bridge, M.J. Bale, Veronika Maine, Aje and sass & bide, MFW’s Riverview Runway event will see some of Australia’s best designers showcase collections on the scenic Seafarers Bridge. Riverview Runway will have two sessions hosted on Saturday, November 20.

MCG Underground Carpark

Melbourne Fashion Week invites you down beneath the city’s most iconic landmark as part of its Underground Runway show on Saturday November 20. For the first time ever, the MCG carpark will be transformed into a fashion haven where designers like A.BCH, BLANCA by Reliquia Collective, Erik-Yvon, EveryHuman, MNDATORY, REBORN by HoMie and VERNER will showcase their designs.

Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium

Hosted on Wednesday, November 17, Aquarium Runway will see collections from designers like Gorman, Grace Lillian Lee, SISTER STUDIOS and Arnsdorf hit the runway, surrounded by an underwater world at Sea Life Aquarium.

Queen & Collins

To wrap up MFW, designers like bassike, Lee Mathews, Oroton and Viktoria & Woods will showcase its collections at the revived gothic-era backdrown of Queen & Collins’ Grand Cathedral Room. The closing show will have three sessions on Sunday, November 21.
