Experience the Power of Writing: Montblanc Haus Museum Opens in May

A place to inspire writing. Stay curious for this unseen experience of Montblanc’s past, present and future.

German luxury goods maker Montblanc is opening a new museum this year, “inviting visitors from all over the world to experience the power of writing.”

Situated in the company’s birthplace of Hamburg, Germany, Montblanc Haus is a new museum, visitor centre and event space.

With general ticket sales starting in May, the museum will live next door to Montblanc’s headquarters and manufacturing space where its iconic writing instruments are produced.

The design of the building by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos was created as a “homage to the historical shape of Montblanc’s writing instrument packaging.”

The Spanish Architecural firm who have headquarters in Berlin, designed the 3,600 square metre project to represent the values that define the Montblanc brand: “simplicity, sensuality and timelessness.”

Estimated to cost close to A$30 million, the museum is comprised of a “sophisticated sequence of spaces in three levels, articulated around a central illuminated atrium.”

The museum will showcase a permanent Inspire Writing: Exhibition featuring original handwritings of iconic figures such as Ernest Hemingway, Frida Kahlo and Jackie Chan.

It’ll also display over 410 Montblanc writing instruments – both historic and present – and feature an immersive experience that will provide guests with a behind the scenes look at the team that crafts the writing instruments and the making of its prestigious nibs.

Montblanc Haus will also house a writing atelier where the museum will teach the art of writing across classes including calligraphy, hand lettering, and creative writing. It offers guests the chance to “discover the potential of their own handwriting with Montblanc’s writing instruments.”

Montblanc have been teasing the museum’s opening for some time, releasing a complimentary series titled ‘Montblanc Signed’ last year detailing its origins through short videos.

At the beginning of 2021, the pen maker also released a book, Inspire Writing, exploring the history and importance of writing and literacy culture. It delves into Montblanc’s legacy since its foundation in 1906 and follows the company’s history including showing blueprints of luxury fountain pens, archival images and still photography.

While an exact date for the grand opening is yet to be announced, according to the website, general ticket sales start in May.
