Sydney is a city connected deeply to the water. It is home to probably the most famous harbour in the world, steeped in history, rich in scenery and the perfect place to showcase some of the most desirable experiences to be had on, in and around the country’s beautiful lakes, rivers and oceans.

The 53rd Sydney International Boat Show was held in the iconic Darling Harbour and International Convention Centre from July 28 to August 1, welcoming over 45,000 visitors. With 240 exhibitors, 900 boats on display and a host of entertainment and activities, this year’s show was a return to form for the Australian marine industry’s premiere event.

The Market Herald Fancy Nautica was on the ground filming From The Deck in our on-site studio, with presenter Iolande Skinner interviewing a wide range of industry leaders to gain exclusive insights across the five days.

At the show, every business from sail makers to scuba dive operators showcased the best products, boats and experiences to be had on the water.

Some of the most innovative and fascinating exhibitors were on display as well as some of the country’s most impressive superyachts and vessels of all shapes and sizes.

The long-anticipated return of the Sydney International Boat show after a two year hiatus went down a treat in the harbour city and the show’s organisers could not have been happier with its reception.

It was great to see the crowds in the tens of thousands of people over the past few days. People enjoying the opportunity to get out and ignite their passion for boating and all that a boat show like this offers.

Andrew Fielding, Boating Industry Association President

The Sydney International Boat Show not only provided a platform for an impressive amount of sales, but also for some major announcements.

The merging of Boating Industry Association Victoria into BIA Ltd and some briefings on the work done in consultation with State and Federal Government to advance the country’s marinas, shipyards, marine safety and infrastructure.

It was a very successful return after the pandemic. The New South Wales Government’s Covid-19 recovery plan committed more than A$530 million towards attracting major events back to the state and particularly its capital, Sydney.

We responded to the NSW Government COVID Recovery Plan and call in October last year to revive events and get people back in the city, we understood the need for leadership and the need to put this event on for our members and for our public.

The President of BIA also described the beneficial effects that the boat show had on businesses surrounding Darling Harbour and the ICC, saying it was not only the exhibitors benefitting from the show, with bars, restaurants and cafes all seeing a very big five days of trade.

Almost every broker and builder in Australia was represented at this year’s show, with some big names from the Italian boat building industry also in attendance, alongside a vast array of marine businesses.

Exhibitors were ready to equip attendees with the very best information regarding anything to do with owning, enjoying and maintaining a boat in Australia.
