Urban Sneakers: Streetwear Designer Nigo Reimagines the Cult Louis Vuitton Trainer

The Japanese streetwear-rooted designer Nigo, recently appointed as Kenzo’s new artistic director, has released his second collaboration with yet another high-end fashion house. This time, it’s Louis Vuitton.

The Virgil Abloh lead brand’s partnership with Nigo, dubbed Louis Vuitton² (LV²), brings a fresh perspective to the LV² trainer, described by Abloh as a “creative conversation”.

The new release follows similar themes to the 2020 collaboration with a sneaker collection offering far more statement than subtle. The cult LV Trainer sneaker is reinterpreted by Japanese streetwear legend featuring a healthy display of the classic Louis Vuitton details beside Nigo’s graphic patches.

It’s no surprise the teaming of two streetwear titans on a luxury sneaker collection is generating a hype we’ve seen before from the likes of the Nike Air Jordan. In true sneakerhead fashion, the shoes are already being listed on sites like StockX for almost double the retail price of A$1,890. Here’s a look at the three new Nigo x Louis Vuitton² sneakers.

Nigo x Louis Vuitton Trainer White

The white calf leather made in Italy is printed with the signature duck motif of the Louis Vuitton x Nigo collection. The sneaker features the LV initials on the tongue and side and monogram flowers on the outsole. Louis Vuitton describes the LV² collection as a “fusion of British dandy and Japanese street culture” – an expression of Nigo’s blending of fine art and fashion.

Nigo x Louis Vuitton Trainer Bleu

The Bleu iteration of the Nigo x Louis Vuitton Trainer features a monogram denim upper complemented by calf-leather trim and decorated with a red, heart-shaped Louis Vuitton² rubber patch. The shoe also displays the same LV initials on the tongue and side and monogram flowers on the outsole as its white counterpart. There is also a black leather version available.
