Opening of Retreat at Elcot Park Offers an Opulent Countryside Escape

If you’re in need of some relaxation at a lavish countryside estate, the newly opened Retreat at Elcot Park could provide the breath of fresh air you’ve been longing for.

Set against the verdant West Berkshire countryside, this 16-acre estate harnesses classic English opulence to transport you to a bygone era, except with all the modern comforts and amenities you could possibly need. Housed within a newly re-imagined 18th-century country house, the hotel carries a rich history dating back to 1772.

Before becoming a boutique hotel, Elcot Park was once home to poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and a number of lords and ladies. Now filled with refurbished antiques, bold colours and playful art, the country home has been transformed into a stylish yet distinctly ‘cottagecore’ hotel comprised of 55 luxurious rooms.

Located within proximity to the Downton Abbey Highclere Castle and historic towns of Hungerford and Newbury, The Retreat enjoys a true English countryside setting while being just a 40-minute train ride from London and an hour out of Heathrow Airport.

The hotel’s Signet Spa offers an expansive health club with a hydrotherapy pool, salt floatation room, steam and sauna, mud rasul, spin studio and gym.

The grounds also provide a tennis court and stunning gardens to stroll through. An outdoor infinity pool with a pool bar, croquet lawns and a retail space comprised of a bakery, coffee house, salon, wine store and farmers’ market are all in the works too.

Currently, you can dine at the hotel’s relaxed, all-day dining destination of 1772, the Pan-Asian fine dining restaurant Yu or go for afternoon tea in the Atlas Room. The Retreat also offers gorgeous private dining rooms for up to 80 guests.

The Retreat also welcomes well-behaved four-legged friends to catch up on some R&R in its dog-friendly rooms with external access. You can even bring your pup to dinner in The Atlas Room and the Orangery.

As the second property from The Signet Collection, The Retreat has a high bar to reach considering the group’s Mitre Hotel at Hampton Court earned The Sunday Times’ title of ‘Best Hotel in London’.
