Peplum Sleeves, Sarongs and Sandals: Khaite Looks for Your Spring Wardrobe

“We didn’t come to New York for comfort, we came here for danger…” said Khaite designer Catherine Holstein, discussing her fall film directed by Sean Baker, an ode to New York City in all its gritty glory, with a cast of kick-ass female night crawlers who go total Scorsese.

Having dressed everyone from Florence Pugh to Kendall Jenner, Khaite is responsible for creating some of the world’s most trendsetting pieces. Having only been founded in 2016, the store is relatively new. But with Khaite’s ready-to-wear collection sweeping through Hollywood’s young and beautiful, the store’s success is undeniable.

The foundation of Khaite’s collection is built on robust yet polished items that are distinguished by their exceptional materials and striking details. Playing with masculine and feminine shapes, the brand balances strength and softness in women’s clothing. In the latest collection, you will find a number of surprising designs that rework everything from peplum sleeves to cardigans. If you need some inspiration for your upcoming spring wardrobe, these are some of our favourite styles.

The Peplum

Peplum fell out of fashion in the mid-2010s and saw no signs of returning until recently. Khaite’s take on the iconic style is enough to bring it back for good. Khaite’s tops and dresses see the peplum silhouette paired with tight sleeves to create a flattering balance of styles, while large peplum sleeves add a little drama to plainer items. For an elegant touch, purchase your peplum pieces in neutral colours to soften the overall look.

Sarong skirts

While sarongs may be something we only think to wear to the beach, these stylish sarong style skirts prove that the classic resort item can be worn just about anywhere. Khaite’s summery Louie skirts are artfully wrapped with a twisted waist to create a revealing yet elegant front slit. We love pairing these skirts with a cute crop top and a pair of sandals. If you don’t want to commit to the entire sarong style yet, start with the chestnut suede Myla skirt and its more modest slit.

Chunky cardigans

Having returned with the 90’s revival currently sweeping through the fashion world, there are almost too many cardigan styles on offer with Khaite. You can choose from slimmer fit and cropped cardigans or go with the more dramatic chunky and distressed styles. If you’re looking to go with more of a bohemian look, try the distressed cardigan in husk that models the classic purposeful ripped design that’s more commonly seen on jeans.

European-inspired sandals

While we may be a way off actually visiting the European regions and cities that these sandals represent, we can always get a taste of the continent with the shoes we wear. Khaite’s collection of sandals come in a huge variety of neutral tones, including sandy beige, caramel suede, off-whites and blacks. We love the Puglia and Lisbon sandals paired with some jeans or cut-off shorts, while the Lyon sandals are perfect with a long maxi dress or skirt.
