Perth Welcomes Slice of Europe to King Street

Dubbed the “party of the year” – the opening of Khirzad Femme on Perth’s King Street was nothing short of extraordinary.

As I stepped out of my Uber, I walked across an unusually bustling King Street, with onlookers gathering around to take selfies next to luxury Ferraris parked outside and people queuing up for a serve of ice cream from a Gelato Cart placed in front of the store.

The music was loud. The food was Italian. The champagne was French. And, the collection on offer is bold. A sea of colour hits you as soon as you enter the store with cane palm trees dressed in large terracotta pots spread throughout the boutique – giving the impression you’ve entered a European villa.

The woman behind the brand, Nilofar Khirzad sure knows how to throw a party.

Luxury retailer Hugo Boss once said that the Sydney and Melbourne market is more “business-focused” and Perth buyers are more likely to invest in casual and relaxed collections because of our perpetually warm and sunny climate.

There is nothing casual about this 13-piece summer collection. It flashes in hues of burnt orange, mustard yellow, turquoise blues, blushing pinks, lime greens and sandy whites.

Founder and Creative Director, Nilofar Khirzad has a European mentality when she says, ‘we shouldn’t just dress up on weekends, but we should dress up every single day.’

Nilofar told the West: “I’m so over minimalism. I’m so over your whites and your greys and your blacks — it’s good for some, but I just personally don’t think that’s fashion,” Nilofar said.

The Afghani-born designer says her latest 13-piece collection is all about these aforementioned ‘European vibes.’
