With winter almost upon us, it’s time to head back indoors and warm up with a drink or two. In Perth, there are plenty of cosy bars to choose from. With open fireplaces, cosy interiors and jugs of hot mulled wine, these bars are perfect for spending a wintery evening.

Mrs Brown Bar

Located in North Fremantle, this loveable neighbourhood bar is a local favourite and it’s not hard to see why. With it’s exposed brick walls, open fireplaces and a welcoming courtyard, Mrs Brown Bar is a cosy place to spend an afternoon. The bar serves cocktails, premium spirits and revolving tap beers, but places an emphasis on their wine list.

Open 4.30 till late, Monday to Thursday and 12pm till late, Friday to Sunday.


At this inner-city underground speakeasy, you will find waist-coast wearing bartenders, jazzy tunes and a sultry carnivalesque atmosphere. Located on St Georges Terrace, Bobeche serves up bowls of hot buttery popcorn, with classic cocktails, spirits and their iconic teapot punch. Settle in with an Old Fashioned or Martini and you will be swept away to another era.

Bobeche is open from 4pm till late, Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Bar Lafayette

With chaise lounges, vintage lampshades and artwork adorned walls, Bar Lafayette feels like you have stepped into a cool New York apartment. Located in the old Perth Technical School, the bar serves wines, cocktails and boutique beers, alongside charcuterie boards, duck and pork terrines and decadent truffle arancini. Awarded WA’s Best Cocktail Bar by Bartender Magazine, you don’t want to miss one of their artisanal cocktail creations.

Bar Lafayette is open from 4pm till late, Thursday and Friday, and 7pm till late on Saturday

The Jazz Cellar

Entered through a bright red telephone booth, The Jazz Cellar is an underground live music joint in Mount Hawthorn. Furnished with enamel advertising signs from early 1900s, old sewing machines and antique chairs, the bar has retained it’s charm for decades. Bring your own food and drinks, and settle in for a night of live jazz music.

The Jazz Cellar is open every Friday from 5.30pm.

Darling Darling

Created by world renowned bar designer, Ashley Sutton, Darling Darling occupies the old Sadleirs building in Fremantle’s West End. Inspired by the area’s seafaring history, the bar is based on old sailor’s speakeasies of the 1800s. Furnished with leather armchairs, heavy curtains, ropes and other seafaring artefacts, Darling Darling offers rum’s whiskey’s, gins, and a few select beers.

Darling Darling is open 4pm till 11pm, Sunday to Thursday, and 12pm till late, Fridays and Saturdays.
