Piaget Polo: The Watch Collection Standing the Test of Time

A lot of sparkly rocks went into the watches from the latest collection. A lot of patience too. Designed by the great-grandson of Piaget Founder Georges-Édouard Piaget, Yves G. Piaget’s revolutionary design is responsible for bringing Piaget into the luxury watch spotlight.

Designed to be not only a luxury timepiece but also a stylish piece of jewellery, the Piaget Polo changed the way watches are designed and worn.

After its first appearance in 1979, it wasn’t long before the Piaget Polo was seen on the wrist of Andy Warhol, Roger Moore, Bjorn and other stylish celebrities that attended the parties at the famous Broadway theatre and Disco nightclub at Mannhattern’s Studio 54.

The beloved timepieces were re-released in a reinvented collection earlier this year. Taking on the signature 1970s model in a completely new way, the watches have been reinvented for a new generation of Piaget enthusiasts.

With the addition of 1,756 paved diamonds crusted onto the Piaget Polo Date in 36mm and the more reserved steel alligator strap offered on the Piaget Polo Skeleton – the collection truly has something for everyone.

The Piaget Polo collection features the Polo Date in 36mm and the Polo Skeleton watch. These two iconic designs are offered in models for both men and women, with a variety of strap and case varieties available. Here is a look at some of the models worth investing in for Piaget collectors and enthusiasts.

Piaget Polo Date 36mm

The new 36mm edition of the Piaget Polo is a downsized version of the original 42mm model. Shapes, textures and the overall concept are identical, yet with a more compact attire and a more luxurious appeal. With a wide selection of models, from a classic steel model on a bracelet to a fully diamond-paved, white gold exclusive jewellery watch – there is truly something for every watch collector.

This steel edition of Piaget Polo Date 36mm with steel bracelet and discreet diamonds on the hour markers can easily be seen as a unisex option for active women or men searching for something more elegant. The more reserved sibling of the Piaget Date replaces the sparkling diamonds for a more athletic steel case and interchangeable bracelet. With its stunning signature deep Piaget blue face, the timepiece blends history and modernity to create a truly classic model that you can wear for many years to come. Thanks to its exquisite movements, sophisticated complications and its vivid colours, the Piaget Polo makes every single day just that little bit brighter.

The Piaget Polo in 36mm is also offered in a gorgeous rose gold diamond design. Retaining the earlier model’s signature cushion-shaped dial, the model combines Piaget’s sporty design with a touch of distinct femininity. With a conveniently interchangeable bracelet strap, the self-winding watch is the perfect addition to any woman’s watch collection.

While the casual elegance of the Piaget Polo is intact, Piaget has decided to give this 36mm model a more luxurious appeal, as all models feature diamonds, in various positions and weights. The classic steel and blue model only features diamonds on the hour markers, while all other editions, whether in stainless steel, 18k rose gold or 18k white gold, come with diamonds on the bezel (60 brilliant-cut diamonds featuring approx. 0.97 ct).

A version in 18K white gold with a matching bracelet and close to 2,000 stones set in the case, bezel, crown, bracelet and dial, in a typical Piaget high jewellery way, is also available. This culminates in a stunning women’s flagship timepiece bearing the signature rounded bezel and cushion-shaped dial, further elevated with 1,756 paved diamonds generously spread across the bezel, crown, dial and bracelet. Set with 80 brilliant-cut diamonds, this 18K white gold watch glitters from every angle. Powering the timepiece is Piaget’s own 500P1 self-winding mechanical movement, which delivers hours, minutes and seconds function alongside a date window at the six o’clock mark. This timepiece delivers a power reserve of 40 hours to ensure precise timekeeping off the wrist for almost two days. From its 352 brilliant-cut diamond-paved dials to its 1,315 diamond-studded bracelets, this is a truly radiant Piaget timepiece that exudes glamour and is the perfect watch for lovers of gem settings.

While diamonds can make the ultimate statement, Piaget has also offered this timepiece in a more pared-back version which switches out the diamond bracelet for a dark blue alligator strap. Both versions come with a 50-metre water resistance rating for peace of mind.

Piaget Polo Skeleton Watch

The Piaget Polo Skeleton is a distinctly masculine timepiece. With an edgy mechanical face, the sports watch is 42mm wide with a sapphire crystal case back and 1200S1 skeleton movement. Wearers can choose between the interchangeable solid steel bracelet or choose the deep blue alligator strap for ultimate versatility to complement any outfit. With an 18K rose gold case set, the watch is balanced by a deep blue face and alligator leather strap.

This Polo Skeleton watch features Piaget’s iconic cushion-shaped bezel and a self-winding skeleton movement in the classic Piaget blue. With the first Piaget Skeleton watch dating back to the 70s, notable wearers of these slimline timepieces include jazz legend, Miles Davis, who took to wearing a gold Piaget Skeleton for some of his major performances. Incorporating skeletonised calibres and exquisite enamelling, the Polo Skeleton it’s easy to see why this slimline timepiece has been worn by the stars.
