A fully off-grid luxury home set in the sand dunes of South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, with frontage to two kilometres of pristine coastline and beach, will be on the market for the first time in seven years this week.

The 273-acre property at 400 Coopers Beach Road in Nalyappa, known as The Dunes, was developed in 2014 as a partnership between owner Peter Michell and renowned architect Max Pritchard.

Due to its position in a gorgeous natural setting and resort-style features, it is one of the most distinctive seaside retreat properties of its kind in Australia.

The Dunes was planned to be completely self-sufficient, with an 80-kilowatt solar power plant feeding into lithium batteries, 300,000 litres of water storage, and architectural elements that regulate temperature. The Dunes also features an aquaponics geo-dome for vegetables and herbs to offer an all-year-round food garden and a 45,000-lite fish tank that is now filled with over 60 silver perch.

The house, garage, and storage building total 875 square metres in size, with six bedrooms, five bathrooms, extensive lounge areas, a theatre, a chef’s kitchen with two butler’s pantries, an outside alfresco patio with a fireplace, a spa, pool, and sauna, and a sun deck.

The present owner has enjoyed it for many years, but it is now being offered for sale through a private treaty campaign led by Deborah Cullen of Cullen Royle and Grant Giordano of Giordano & Partners, with a price range on application.

Ms Cullen stated that the home, which was the owners’ imaginative conception, was likely to draw strong buyer interest.

“The Dunes is truly a one-off resort-style estate without peer – there is nothing that compares. It is a private off-the-grid sanctuary set in a stunning natural environment, in a pristine part of Australia that is incredibly unspoiled,” she said.

Mr Giordano said the centrepiece of the property was its breathtakingly beautiful location.

“The home showcases unparalleled panoramic views from almost every room, as well as its outdoor viewing platform,” he said.
