Sotheby’s to Auction Rare Chanel Handbags and 90s Pieces

After generating some A$20 million from Karl Lagerfield’s estate, Sotheby’s is going on to auction off a variety of rare Chanel handbags, accessories, jewellery and objects, many of which are from the 90s and early 2000s.

Titled ‘The Chanel Collection’, the auction features 250 items which are all to go under the Sotheby’s hammer by March 24.

With the recent return of 90s-inspired fashion and vintage clothing, the auction offers luxury fashion lovers the opportunity to get their hands on nostalgia-boosting garments.

This chic pink bouclé jacket was featured in the 1993 Spring/Summer collection and is expected to sell for around A$2,700.

If you’re looking for a piece that looks like it could be straight out of Clueless, look no further than this cute crop. Worn by Kylie Jenner, this staple black crop top made its debut as part of the Spring/Summer collection in 1995.

This 1993 black and green jacket set was first worn on the runway by Claudia Schiffer and comes with a starting bid of more than A$6,000. Featuring a chain tie closure and printed silk details, this is a unique interpretation of the classic Chanel jacket.

From classic flap bags to gold clutches and even a leather holster bag, The Chanel Collection also features more than 100 bags from the French fashion house.

All in good condition, the auction is a prime opportunity to invest in a vintage Chanel handbag. At the top of the estimates is this double flap bag from 1996-7 which, according to the auction house, could fetch up to A$16,000.
