It is the age of the Italian boating renaissance. Wooden speedboats such as the gorgeous Rivamare 38 by iconic brand Riva are often spotted motoring around the turquoise waters of the boot-shaped country, particularly in picturesque locales such as Venice or Portofino. It is all thanks to the Ferretti Group’s range of unforgettably luxurious offerings.

From the Deck’s Iolande Skinner stepped onboard Ferretti Group’s best boats on display at the Sydney International Boat Show. Leading the tour was Ray White Marine’s Sales Director, Brock Rodwell, who took her on a walkthrough of the Rivamare 38, Ferretti 720 and Ferretti 780.

Rivamare 38

The Rivamare 38 is a seductive, sporty motorboat with class and sophistication at the core of its design. Alongside the Aquariva Super and Aquarama, the Riva range boasts some of the most luxurious wooden speedboats on the water. The brand recently celebrated its 180th Anniversary at a glitzy gala in Venice.

The 11.8-metre Rivamare 38 is powered by a Volvo Penta D6 400 helping it to a zippy 40 knots maximum speed. Four hundred horsepower means her cruising speed of 31 knots is easily reached.

Ferretti 720 & 780

Ray White Marine had two Ferretti Yachts on display at the Sydney International Boat Show, the 720 and 780. The two similarly sized yachts are both prime examples of superior Italian quality. The 780 features a flybridge design and the 720 has amazing spaces, unexpected headroom and an abundance of areas to enjoy.

They are both available with different engine configurations; the 22-metre Ferretti 720 with a MAN V12 1400 is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots.

The Ferretti 780 is available with a MAN V12 1550 which helps the 24-metre vessel to a maximum speed of 31 knots and a cruising speed of 27 knots.

Brock Rodwell also sat down with Iolande Skinner From The Deck to discuss the current market. He noted that the used boat market, especially in Europe, is going through unprecedented times. Some second-hand yachts are even turning a profit in the last few years, almost unheard of for a marine asset.

You’ve got classic models like the Riva Aquarama which we’ve seen go up in value in recent years and you’ve seen boats that I’ve sold two or three years ago being resold for a profit. I had a boat resold for €1 million net profit after two seasons’ use in the Mediterranean.

Rodwell says this can be attributed largely to supply chain issues and the lack of new boats on the market and that keeping up with the competition in terms of innovation and design will present a future challenge for yacht builders. Aft beach clubs are apparently the number one feature requested by clients in today’s market.

Along the theme of clients requesting yachts with a longer range and greater hydrodynamic efficiency, catamarans have experienced a huge rise in popularity and completely taken over some market sectors.

Another advantage of multi-hulled yachts according to Brock is the improved liveability onboard with their larger deck space and increased stability.

Ferretti Group’s Global Sales and Marketing Director, Allesandro Tirelli attended the Sydney International Boat Show and spoke with Iolande Skinner From The Deck about the opportunities in the Australian market for Ferretti’s iconic range of speedboats, yachts and superyachts.
