Sustainability in Fashion: Isabel Marant Brings New Meaning to Buying Vintage Online

Following the lead of Prada, Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton – French fashion label; Isabel Marant, is the latest fashion brand to undergo a sustainable reformation.

Driven by the need for a more circular fashion cycle, the brand’s new resale platform, Isabel Marant Vintage, was unveiled late last month.

Enabling older season Isabel Marant and Isabel Marant Étoile pieces to be recycled and repurchased – the vintage, online boutique has opened up a transformative and sustainable space for the luxury fashion world.

It’s a natural fit for the French designer, who advocates what she calls the “ecology of clothing” ie. the design of sustainable, handmade clothes with timeless cuts.

This project is also part of a solidarity approach: all proceeds will be donated to the Isabel Marant Endowment Fund, which aims to support women’s education and crafts in indigenous communities.

As a public advocate for the ecology of clothing, Isabel Marant has always emphasised the importance of creating long-lasting, timeless pieces.

While it may seem natural for other brands to follow suit, the platform can only exist because of the durability and timeless style of Isabel Marant pieces.

We can only hope that the platform drives other fast fashion producers to think about taking on a more circular approach to clothing sales and creating better quality and less disposable pieces.

Owners of no longer wanted Isabel Marant pieces can send the items to the boutique, where they will be repaired and sold on the site.

Sellers are given a sale voucher that they can use to purchase vintage or new Isabel Marant pieces, while all other proceeds are donated to the Isabel Marant Endowment Fund, which supports women’s education and art in indigenous communities.

You can expect the vintage online boutique to consistently be evolving with current collections changing depending on the availability and variety of vintage donations.

Currently, you can find a large selection of iconic pieces that include structured blazers, cashmere sweaters, printed maxi dresses, navy cigarette pants and white leather cowboy boots.

Here are some of our favourites.

The Duerto Boots

These off-white leather cowboy boots are one of our favourite items in the boutique. With a block, statement heel and relaxed design, these Isabel Marant boots are a truly trans-seasonal item. Pair them with a long maxi dress and printed mini skirt during the summer or pair them with leather pants in the winter. The Duerto boots are made 100 per cent calfskin and come in a European size 39.

The Itea Shorts

This is the perfect pair of denim shorts to have ready for spring and summer. A light application of tie-dye – this will be a staple to any women’s wardrobe. Wear with a white linen shit and a pair of Chanel loafers for the ultimate summer outfit.

The Ali Robe Dress

A great little number to have hanging for any occasion. This cocktail dress is a great length, meaning it can be worn during the day or in the evening. For a cocktail event, pair with a killer pair of black leather heels or an open toe-sandal. For a more casual and day-time look, pair with a set of tan leather open candles and a small leather cloth.

The Kindan Jacket

Pair this oversized blazer with a white tee and a washed-out denim pair of jeans for the ultimate Parisian look. The pastel pinks and larger fit – give the impression of an effortlessly, ‘put together look.’ The perfect addition to any women’s wardrobe.

The Gatlin Sweater

This long-sleeve alpaca sweater is the perfect winter staple. With a flattering round collar and drop shoulder design, this sweater offers the perfect weekend look. Shrug this on with a pair of casual blue jeans and you’re sure to turn heads.
