The 10 Best Fragrance Releases of 2021

One enduring trend we’ve seen throughout the past year is an investment in self-care, especially an investment in smelling good. From seasonal fragrances, to a growing range of unisex perfumes, there has never been so many scents to try and fall in love with. With fragrance houses releasing plenty of stand-out fragrances and eau de toilettes this year, here are some of the best fragrance releases of 2021.

Maison Margiela Matcha Meditation

Centred around a calming matcha accord, this floral and fresh fragrance was yet another successful fragrance release from Maison Margiela. The eau de toilette also features bergamot essence, mandarin essence and green tea accord to build an uplifting spring-appropriate scent.

BYREDO Mixed Emotions

Classified as more of a unisex fragrance, BYREDO’s latest release, Mixed Emotions, is yet another complex perfume from the successful Swedish fragrance house. With juxtaposing notes of black currant and mate, tea and violet leaf, and birch and papyrus, Mixed Emotions is as its name suggest; a mixed bag of scents that can lend itself to a love it or hate it response.

Tom Ford Soleil Brulant

Another unisex fragrance that was met with positive reviews was Tom Ford’s Soleil Brulant. Featuring top notes of pink pepper and bergamot, middle notes of honey and orange blossom, and earthy, woody base notes, many describe this luxurious EDP as an unapologetic burnt honey smelling fragrance.

Comme des Garçons Marseille

Launched just in October, Comme des Garçons’ latest fragrance called Marseille is another unisex offering from the fashion house. Supposedly modelled on Savon de Marseille, a high-quality French soap, Marseille is described as decidedly clean, soapy and a touch musky.

Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Bergamotto di Calabria

Although this citrusy fragrance has been around for some time, the stunning limited edition bottle has reminded fragrance lovers of why Acqua di Parma is the brand for distinctly Italian fragrances. This EDT features notes of bergamot, citron and red ginger.

Diptyque Orphéon

Another clean fragrance that was released in 2021 is Diptyque’s Orphéon. Described as a unisex fragrance, this long-wearing EDP is centred around powdery base notes, jasmine and juniper berries. Most describe this perfume as cosy and clean.

Chanel Le Lion de Chanel

Although Chanel released Le Lion de Chanel in 2020, it gained some popularity this year thanks to its longevity and incredible sillage. Ambery and leathery, this unisex perfume is a dark, warm and refined fragrance that is bound to turn heads.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Vitae Cologne Forte

Described as a ‘pampering eau de parfum whose trail is saturated with sun and sensual musks’, Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Aqua Vitae Cologne Forte is a light, summery scent.

Ellis Brooklyn Bee

Honey lovers will love the latest fragrance from Ellis Brooklyn. Bee is honey-based feminine perfume surrounded by notes of cinnamon, rum, vanilla and sandalwood.
