The $10 Secret to Glowy Skin: The Ordinary Niacinamide

Along with skincare buzz words like retinol and hyaluronic acid, you may have heard of niacinamide. Promising to reduce the appearance of blemishes and congestion while brightening overall skin tone, niacinamide has been marketed as a wonder ingredient. But with skincare routines seeming to become more and more complex, how should you use niacinamide? Is it even the wonder ingredient skincare brands claim it to be?

What is niacinamide anyway?

The wonder ingredient, niacinamide, is a form of vitamin B3 that has been linked to reducing skin discolouration, signs of ageing and improving overall hydration. Science says that niacinamide works to give you a brighter and more even skin tone by helping the skin produce more collagen and hyaluronic acid while protecting the skin from environmental damage. Pretty impressive, right?

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

While skincare brands may promise to rewind the clock with their products, The Ordinary takes a more direct approach to skincare with a greater focus on ingredients. When it comes to their Niacinamide 10 per cent + Zinc 1 per cent serum, skincare lovers can expect a lightweight formula that reduces visible aspects of sebum activity to reduce the appearance of blemishes and congestion. Along with the benefits of brightness and increased hydration, this serum is a must-have for everyone really.

A word of warning though. Given the high-concentration of niacinamide in The Ordinary’s serum, those with dry and sensitive skin should patch test or use this product sparingly before diving headfirst. And if you use skincare with vitamin C, alternate when you use your niacinamide serum as the two ingredients don’t mix well. Otherwise, this mighty serum is perfect to use AM or PM before you’re heavier moisturisers and serums.
