The Best of Paris Fashion Week Menswear 2022

Wrapping up on Sunday, Paris Men’s Fashion Week 2022 saw high-fashion brands like Dior, Loewe and Hermés set up elaborate runways to showcase their Spring-Summer ’23 menswear collections. Hosted from June 21 to June 26, the Paris Men’s Fashion Week attracted A-list celebs and fashion influencers alike with its major drawcards being the Louis Vuitton and Dior Homme shows.

Featuring a unique art auction-fashion show hybrid, sprouting garments and a life-size children’s toy racetrack runway, this year’s menswear shows were anything but ordinary.

Dior Men

Extending on from Dior’s winter collection, this 52-look Spring-Summer menswear collection celebrates artist Duncan Grant’s and Christian Dior’s respective homes, by paying homage to the two creatives’ gardens in the form of pinks, pastels, blues and a seaside garden backdrop.

Here, we are mixing the utilitarian, natural and gardening elements with stylised, luxurious, New Look facets and Duncan Grant artworks in the collection – the private and the public together.

Kim Jones, Dior Men’s Artistic Director

Featuring reclaimed cashmere, walking shoes, trench coats and shorts with turned-down waistbands, the collection combines everyday luxe with a utilitarian sensibility. Celebrities including Naomi Campbell and David Beckham sat front row as models made their way through a sea of flowers.

Louis Vuitton

The Cour Carrée of the Louvre was transformed into a “yellow brick road for the imagination” with a giant children’s toy racetrack forming the runway for Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2023 show. Kendrick Lamar, in his crown of thorns, performed live from the front row in a tribute to the late Virgil Abloh and his final collection from his design team.

The collection itself was playful, exuberant and filled with colour. Moto jackets took on tipsy-topsy curves, coats featured bold crocheted Louis Vuitton motifs and charm-like accessories doused in colour swayed off trousers and belts.

Hermés

Harnessing the vacation spirit, Hermés men’s Spring-Summer 2023 runway show offered lightness and simplicity in the form of relaxed shorts and trousers crafted from lightweight fabrics and boxy button-downs featuring seahorse and crayfish prints.

Showcased in the open-air enclosure of the Manufacture des Gobelins, the collection’s lilac accents, laid-back sophistication and neoprene sandals exuded the most fashionable version of nonchalance and summer relaxation.

Loewe

Exploring the relationship between nature and technology, Loewe’s latest menswear collection is a “concise fusion of the organic and the fabricated.” Set against a blank canvas, the collection certainly made a statement with sprouting shoes, coats and trousers, plus its screen-laden garments.

Real catswort and chia plants made up the greenery throughout the collection, the product of a collaboration between bio-designer Paula Ulargui Escalona and Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson. As for the screen-infused pieces: videos of tropical fish, flowers and people kissing played as models walked the runway. Of course, the show also featured Loewe’s signature leather work in the form of sleek accessories, coats and exaggerated sneakers.

KidSuper

A runway-auction hybrid, KidSuper Studios’ 2023 menswear show was unlike any other at this year’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Inspired by Colm Dillane’s paintings, the collection was auctioned off by a Christie’s auctioneer during the show, under the tongue-in-cheek title of Superby’s.

Filled with colour, the collection brought Dillane’s paintings to life in the form of boxy blazers, relaxed trousers, woollen sweaters and tote bags. The art-fashion show was the first from New York-based KidSuper and has solidified the designer’s reputation as the streetwear brand to watch.
