The Gucci Sylvie 1969 | Where Old Archive Designs Meet New Classics

First introduced by Gucci designers in 1969, the Sylvie bag was an instant classic. Featuring a dual-toned racer stripe and fold over flap, the bag is a representation of the year of it’s creation. Last year, Gucci creative director, Alessandro Michele, revealed his reinvention on the classic handbag. Named after it’s predecessor, the Gucci Sylvie 1969 blends old and new to create another timeless piece.

Gucci Sylvie Sizes

The handbag has been released in a variety of sizes and styles, including a mini shoulder bag, small shoulder bag, mini top handle bag and small top handle bag. Taking inspiration from the original Gucci Sylvie, the 1969 model, the handbag retains the forward flap details by replacing the racer stripe with a gold-toned chain and buckle closure. Made of patent leather, the Sylvie is offered in a bold colour palette of classic brown, deep green, black and white.

The shoulder bag design involves a subtle mechanism that allows the wearer to adjust the length of the shoulder strap so that it can be one across the body as well as on one shoulder. These models also feature leather lining, an exterior back pocket, two interior gussets and one interior open pocket.

The top handle bag comes in both mini and small sizes, featuring a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap for the wearers convenience. While the shoulder bag’s sport a softer rounded silhouette, the Gucci Sylvie top handle bag is designed with a squarer, business-like shape, adding depth to the handbag’s minimal design.

While the style is certainly not as bold as Michele’s other recent designs, the minimalist style and classic colours makes the Sylvie 1969 one of the brand’s most versatile pieces.
