The Highlights of Paris Fashion Week 2021

From September 28 to October 6, the biggest names in fashion took over Paris for the spring-summer fashion season. From egg-shell stilettos to office-inspired fashion, Paris Fashion Week saw the return of live shows sans masks, star-studded front rows and plenty of exciting looks, much to the delight of fashion lovers. Here are some of the highlights of Paris Fashion Week 2021.

Capturing the noise and vibrancy of Rome’s iconic nightclub, the Piper Club, Dior showcased its colourful SS22 collection against a colourful, disco ball-laden backdrop and to the beating rhythm of techno music. Inspired by Marc Bohan’s Slim Look collection for Dior in 1961, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri harnessed the playfulness of the 60s Italian art and fashion scene with primary colours, gladiator sandals and classic silhouettes.

Louis Vuitton

Hosted in the Louvre Museum, Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer runway show featured statement sunglasses, embellished layering and even an environmental protester. Inspired by Lous Vuitton’s more than 160-year history, Nicolas Ghesquière’s collection also featured deconstructed ballroom dresses. The show was interrupted by an Extinction Rebellion protester holding a sign reading, ‘Overconsumption = Extinction’.

At this year’s Paris Fashion Week, Chanel paid tribute to the best of 80s and 90s fashion to the tune of George Michael’s, Freedom. The iconic fashion house describes the collection as “romantic with a touch of mystery” and closed a string of fun summer looks with an airy butterfly-printed chiffon dress-all of which was captured by photographers in a classic paparazzi pit by the runway’s edge.

Miu Miu

Describing its latest collection as “a reaction to and reflection of reality”, Miu Miu’s spring-summer offerings took 90s normcore slash office-inspired fashion to the next level. With the audience sat in swivel-style chairs, office attire was the focus of this collection. Arguably defined by the return of the micro skirt, Miu Miu’s collection featured trousers, button-downs and trench coats that have all been “carved out to reveal the body”.

Showcased as part of a two day Balmain music festival, Olivier Rousteing’s spring-summer collection coincided with Rousteing’s 10th anniversary. Opened by a message from Beyoncé, the collection boasted some of the most well-known supermodels like Naomi Campbell and plenty of slinky dresses and pants with cut-outs.
